Meet the speakers

Kylie Wicks

With over 30 years of experience in the disability community sector, Kylie Wicks has worked extensively across both metropolitan and remote areas of Australia. Her expertise spans working with a wide range of funding bodies and understanding how to assist clients navigate the various steps in accessing supports for the best possible health and lifestyle outcomes.

Kylie has developed and delivered nationwide training for clinicians and disability support workers on evidence-based best practices for individuals with complex healthcare needs. She has also presented at numerous national and international symposia.

Holding a Master of Nursing Research, Kylie actively contributes to practice-driven research and has developed clinical assessment tools to assist product prescription to support the clinical and lifestyle requirements of the individual.

Dr. Dinesh Palipana OAM

Dr. Dinesh Palipana is the Chief Clinical Advisor at Forward, joining the organisation in October 2023 as part of the Executive Management Team. A doctor, lawyer, disability advocate, and researcher, Dinesh became the first quadriplegic medical intern in Queensland after a motor vehicle accident during medical school.

In addition to his role at Forward, Dinesh is a Doctor in the emergency department at one of Australia’s busiest hospitals, is a senior lecturer at Griffith University, and conducts spinal cord injury research. He is also the doctor for the Gold Coast Titans physical disability rugby team and was a senior advisor to the Disability Royal Commission.

Dinesh is a passionate advocate for inclusion, serving as an ambassador for the Human Rights Commission’s Include Ability program and a founding member of Doctors with Disabilities Australia. He has received numerous accolades, including the Medal of the Order of Australia, Griffith University’s Young Alumnus of the Year, and Queensland Australian of the Year in 2021.
